DESCRIPTION
Vishnu means ‘All Pervader’, or taking many forms. He is one of the most important Hindu deities along with Shiva and Brahma. He is the sustainer of the universe and sometimes descends to earth assuming various forms (avataras) to redress the balance between good and evil, and hence is known as the Preserver. He is seen here with his vahana (vehicle), the mythical bird Garuda and his consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi on either side. The blue skinned Vishnu wears a number of necklaces and has a floral garland hanging from his neck. He carries two of his usual attributes, the disc (chakra) and conch (sankha) in his hands. His consorts both bejewelled wear saris and holding a flowers with their hands.
