DESCRIPTION
Narasimha is an incarnation of the Hindu deity Vishnu, who is married to Lakshmi. Hence, Lord Narasimha is referred to as Lakshmi Narasimha. Vishnu assumed the form of Narasimha, which is half man and half lion, to protect his devotee Prahlada. Narasimha is depicted with a human body and lower body but with a lion's face and claws. Usually, he is seen in the act of slaying the demon Hiranyakashipu, the powerful brother of the demon Hiranyaksha whom Vishnu had slain. Hiranyakashipu was endowed with special powers such that he could not be killed by any god, demon, man or animal during the day or night, indoors or outdoors. Vishnu realized the demon's strength and, as a result, transformed into an avatar that was neither man nor animal to kill the demon at the twilight hour, both inside and outside.
