ABOUT TANJORE PAINTINGS
Tanjore paintings are classical South Indian painting styles, that originated from Tanjore in Tamil Nadu back in the 17th century. These paintings are characterized by their rich and vivid colors, simple iconic composition, glittering gold foils overlaid on delicate but extensive gesso work, and inlay of glass beads and pieces or very rarely precious and semi-precious gems. They essentially symbolize ancient themes of traditional gods and goddesses
DESCRIPTION
Lakshmi Hayagreeva, the equine-necked embodiment of Vishnu in Hindu mythology, was specifically manifested to defeat a danava known as Hayagriva, a human descendant of Kashyapa and Danu with a horse's neck. He is visualized as seated Goddess Lakshmi. He has four hands, with one in the mode of bestowing knowledge, another holding books of wisdom and the other two hold the Conch and Discus.
