ABOUT TANJORE PAINTINGS

Tanjore painting is a form of painting, with a unique style which originated in Tanjavoor.The creation of this painting involves a lot of dedication and several stages of meticulous art work.These paintings are known for their surface richness, vivid colors, compact composition and breathtaking beauty. It comes in three finishes normal, antique and embossed.

A many-figured Tanjore painting. On the back of Nandi, His all-powerful bull vahana (mount), sits the great Lord Shiva. The beautiful Parvati, clasped in His arms, looks lovingly into His face. Adorned in silks and bejewelled gold, especially the fair Nandi in a dynamic stance, these aspects of the figures have been executed in gold-layered gesso-work.

To the right of the Shiva-Parvati-Nandi ensemble are members of the divine Shivagana, various devas of the Hindu paraloka. To the left are the mortal Shivagana.Details such as the hems and the minimal adornment in the Shivagana sections have also been inlaid with gold in keeping with authentic Tanjore art.
