ABOUT TANJORE PAINTINGS
Tanjore paintings are classical south Indian painting style, that originated from Tanjore in Tamil Nadu back in the 17th century. These paintings are characterized by their rich and vivid colors, simple iconic composition, glittering gold foils overlaid on delicate but extensive gesso work and inlay of glass beads and pieces or very rarely precious and semi-precious gems. They essentially symbolize ancient themes of traditional gods and goddesses.
DESCRIPTION
The divine trio of Lakshmi-Ganesha-Sarasvati next to each other. Lakshmi and Sarasvati are seated on a pink and a white lotus, respectively; while Ganesha is on a throne of gold, studded with rubies and upholstered with velvet.
The trio is flanked by the standing Venkateshvara figure to the left of the viewer (right of Lakshmi) and the standing Karttikeya to the right (left of Sarasvati). A total of five divine figures, in a mix of seated and standing stances, make up the composition.
