This exquisitely detailed masterpiece is a Tanjore style painting on a old gopuram styled kavadi depicting Gajalakshmi, which is a representation of Goddess Lakshmi. In Hindi, the word ‘Gaj’ translates to elephant, and in this depiction, elephants flank the Goddess on either side. Sometimes, the elephants are even pictured using their trunks to pour water over her. This representation of Lakshmi is also worshipped as a fertility symbol in certain cultures in India. The piece has been very finely executed and almost brings the scene to life. A beautiful piece to adorn your home wall.
