The gorgeous Devi Meenakshi is a roopa (form) of Devi Parvati Herself. Her husband is the Sundareshvara roopa of Lord Shiva. The patron deity of Madurai, an ancient district in the heart of Tamil Nadu, is portrayed here in Her exact iconographical beauty.
This traditional standing Meenakshi Devi carved statue is flanked by temple pillars. An ornate archway circles high above Her head. These sections in specific are hallmarks of authenticity, given that they borrow heavily from the ancient temple architecture of the South (this particularly includes the Kirtimukham aureole at the zenith of the archway).
