Nandi, also called Nandikeshwara or Nandideva, is Shiva's bull mount and guard of Kailash. Nearly all Shiva temples have a seated Nandi usually facing the main shrine. He was borne of Shilada's penance for an immortal child blessed by Shiva and is chief guru of the Nandinatha Sampradaya's eight disciples.
